The conclusion to draw from these admittedly anecdotal tests is shockingly obvious: Processing within the aRGB Working Space apparently produces significant advantages.

In fact, when the aRGB image is mapped to an example output profile (in this case, a Canon i9900 dye ink printer profiled with Ilford Galleria Classic Gloss media…a very competent combination), the displacement of those saturated colors is profound.

In photometry, colors that have a similar visual character as sensed by a normalized human eye, but actually have differing spectral componentry are referred to as “Metamers.” If you are frustrated by the apparent colors of your prints varying under different kinds of lighting, it is possible that you are afflicted with Metamerism.

A Gamut (or “Color Space”) is simply a three-dimensional volume of colors that represent the entire set of colors that is either used as a reference volume or describes the capability of a piece of hardware (e.g. a monitor or printer).
