It is established that the “exposure” of professional thermograms be tailored so that the bulk of the selected palette range is confined to features of interest in order to produce an optimal representation of their thermal patterning.

It is therefore sometimes necessary to prepare different outputs of individual thermograms for profoundly variant elements in a single frame.

Uninitiated viewers may criticize thermograms that are properly adjusted, interpreting the obscuration or outright disposal of some details to be reckless. Audiences should understand the complex reasons behind aggressive tuning.

Although thermograms are routinely delivered as photographic artifacts, the strategies of qualitative and quantitative thermal assays must be distinguished from those of visible band conventions.
