High School Football Aerial Photography in Idaho
Sep 7th, 2008 by Leo A. Geis
We shot two games on Friday, 9/5/08. Our main focus (funny, huh?) was on the new Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian-it was not only their season opener, but their very first football game period. Somehow they were lucky enough to draw current state champion Meridian.
We were blessed with one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. Even after the sun was down the clouds were so visciously lit that they bathed the entire valley in orange light, not unlike what is evident toward the horizon in this image. Yes, that is the actual sunset from that evening, but this is a composite image (the sunset was it’s own image).
My friend Kevin photographed us photographing from the sky…most likely because I had threatened to drop balloons filled with medical waste on his home, located just east of the shoot.
During a break in the shoot window we cruised around looking for other games to interrupt (we have a high performance exhaust system on the aircraft). Eagle was dark (obviously), Capitol was dark, but Centennial was jammed.
It turns out that our friend Jim was in the stands and phoned me to tell me exactly where he was seated. In the interest of Public Safety, we’ll not go any further into that matter…we had already jettisoned our medical waste balloons and had only a large wooden rabbit prop from Monty Python’s Search for the Holy Grail left in the cockpit.
If you get that joke, you’re either far too old or far too classy to be on this website.
