The New Idaho Airships, Inc. Logo
Apr 25th, 2008 by Leo Geis
We ended up building our own 3D blimp since it’s next purposes are within Flash applications. I lathed a Hindenburg-modeled envelope…less the pyrotechnics, of course.
Please meet the Graf Idaho, 2008 incarnation…
The propellers spin (they also have pitch-they’re not simply flat paddles), the engines spit out smoke (Perlin Noise), the rudder and elevator surfaces actuate, and the gondola is internally lit (notice the illumination on the bottom of the blimp coming from the gondola windows).
This is going to be a real beast to have embroidered 12 inches wide on the backs of jackets.
The text is beveled, but that doesn’t show up in this 72dpi low-res version.
Because the airship is a 3D object, we are able to “fly it around” in our images-with correct shadowing and perspective. I’ll post an example when business slows a bit…perhaps in December?
